Hi I think i have seen someone put up a guide on a distributor and vacuum advance rebuild on a DG but I can't seem to find it?
or anyone know of a good gide to rebuild my distributor amd fit my new vacuum advance

If your changing the vac unit I can recommend the powerspark one as I've just changed it on mine - real simple job to do as well. I took the dizzy out to do it so just mark it up or take a couple of pics so it goes back in the right way:

Ummm, less than half the price of a Brickwerks one - and guess which one I bought a couple of months ago

I use the powerspark one all the time, always keep them in stock. Fitted many now with great results. Can be fitted in situ in minutes.

If you have done it before yes but for a first timer getting the plunger hooked back on is fiddly and easier with dizzy on the bench.

I overhauled mine the other week. Very simple - I took lots of photos to ensure I rebuilt it the same. Some of the screws have different lengths. Be careful when you remove the vane - there's a tiny key way dowel to catch. I fitted the Brickwerks Vacuum advance unit - genuine Bosch.

Yes, ours are genuine, new, original Bosch.
We don't make up Bosch prices I'm affraid, we only have a small margin on them. They won't get cheaper.
They also aren't old stock.

Itchy - that's just gloating

So we drove over the Dark Peak t'other day and no problems. Then started the van form the campsite and had to climb a pretty steep and long hill. Definitely loosing a bit of power and really didn't feel 'right'. Then downhill and was not picking up on the throttle. I decided to pull in and while the van would start it wouldn't pick up. HT side has been renewed fairly recently and looked OK (no tracking on leads or between caps and plugs). Petrol pump and pushrod pretty well as new. I tried sucking on the vacuum advance pipe to the vacuum advance unit and could not achieve or maintain suction/vacuum. There didn't seem to be any movement of the rotor arm (should there have been if a vacuum had been achieved by just sucking?).
The plan is to replace the vacuum pipes and to replace the vacuum unit. My question is that, 'does the failure of the vacuum advance unit have such a dramatic effect on the performance?. Or should I be looking at something else as well?'.
