I want to replace my coolant this Autumn and have been looking at anti-freeze. Why is it so expensive and does anyone know where the best place to get it from?

I bought a giant container of concentrated red in the Summer from Euro Car Parts when they had it on offer. Quite a few of us did. 20 litres for just shy of £30. Big container, but oil and antifreeze should always be snapped up when the price is right. A lot of places rely on profit on antifreeze in winter months and will even raise the price. Likewise batteries and starters are big part of winter business for garages so harder to find bargains as weather gets colder.

You tend to get better prices on antifreeze in the Summer when they over-stocked the previous Winter so thats the perfect time to buy it really. May/June onwards generally.

I buy new tyres about a year before I need them as it gives me ample time to hunt out the bargains rather than having to pay full whack when they're worn out. My view is you're going to have to buy all these things anyway so best to do it in advance and save around £200 a year. My present set (all Michelin 8-ply) were £120 for four. LIDL oil (which is excellent) - I buy two containers when that comes in which gives me well over 2 complete oil changes a year for just over £20.
