Ive finally got the dash out this week to do some tidying and i thought i would also replace the heater blower while i am at it.
Now i have the dash out the Plastic housing doesn't look others i have seen on here or on the rest of t'net .So im wondering if i actually have a blower motor,i know some of the air cooled haven't .How can i tell other than removing the plastic housing and checking( easier said than done because i have three screws that someone has had a go at before and rounded the heads...sigh).
The van is a 2.0 Aircooled 1980 viking conversion,the heater panel has the hole for the knob and the switch in the back but i still cant see any obvious wiring.
Any suggestions anyone? or do i just drill the screws out and see?(not my favourite option...!)

Aircooled don't normally have an electric blower motor, the heater air is pushed by the fan on the alternator. The only time an electric blower is fitted if it has the optional fresh air blower.

As Bigherb said I don't think your van will have a blower; sounds like someone has replaced the bit of plastic at the front with a later water cooled one that has the hole in as they are probably easier to find.

Thanks for that ,i have taken a couple of photos tonight ,ill upload them tomorrow,but you are right,im fairly sure it hasn't got a blower ,the plastics haven't been changed .It was the heater panel with the switch in it for a blower that was throwing me.

I know of some T2's that added fans to the heater ducts but no idea what type - can get very hot in there. Best way to improve heat output from heat exchangers is to lag all the ducting. Amazing the difference it makes. Long term in an Aircooled, a Propex is a good investment.

Yes thanks ,propex is on the list of 'winter projects' .Anyway it wasn't a waste of time 35 years of crud cleaned under the dash,wiring tidied and a few other things cleaned up ,also if i need to remove the dash again i know how its done and reckon i can do it pretty quickly.

Never a wasted time getting a dash out. Its just what I'd call a ploddy job. Well worth pulling out at least once. There are some things under the dash you can't get at properly with it in situ and its a brilliant opportunity to sound-deaden or at least insulate under there. Replacing the blower is a bonus.
