1.9 WC Drinking Oil

Hi all, i have a 89 1.9 WC engine and it seems to drink a LOT of oil. it probs uses about 5ls every 1000 miles.
I have done a compression test and all cylinders are the same about 120psi. It smokes on start up but once warm is ok, what could it be? is it likely to be the valve stem seals?
Thanks in advance,
Ben

no valve stem seals
most likely worn rings and even more likely an oil leak or two

If rings are worn, the oil will create a partial seal during the compression test (its not turning over fast lets face it) but this all changes on the road. Try a white piece of paper over exhaust outlet - that sometimes gives an indication of oil seeping past rings. What colour are the plugs?

120 psi is 8.3 bar
my 100,000 mile dg is at 12 bar 175 psi hot but perhaps yours was measured cold?
being even doesn't rule out ring wear, just means they may all be worn evenly.
