I'm fed up with my Sony poking +3 inches out of the dashboard.

Does anyone know of any narrow depth stereos. I'm willing to forego the CD as assume this might contribute to stereo depth.

Any suggestions?

Do you have anything behind the stereo stopping it going further back ? I have a thin spacer round mine but it's only about 1/4 " deep.

lidl ones pop up no and then no cd but aux jack and usb port 49 euro over here so about 40 uk

I have a an old 'full size' Blaupunkt CD radio in one van, and a VW Gamma cassette radio in the other, both fit fine but with the Gama I did have to recess the plastic heater housing slightly using a heat gun and lump of wood..

i have a jvc avx1 in mine, bit old school but has 26 wires coming out of the back...yes 26 and fits fine

The Aldi unit is just one of many that you can buy without a CD deck. The search term you're looking for is 'deckless car stereo' - plenty to choose from, and they tend to be about HALF the depth of a CD unit. If you search on 'deckless' in this forum you'll see various threads singing the praises of the Aldi unit, and it seems to get cheaper each time it comes into store. Each time it reappears I can't help thinking "*next* time it shows up it'll have a DAB tuner, and a microphone socket", as those are about the only features it lacks.

I've got the aldi one. Its OK I think. Navigating the SD card for music is a pain in the nuts, rarely showing the id3 tag information where my old one had no problems. The Bluetooth and half size are the only good bits in my view..

I too have have a "deckless" one (not Aldi but very similar) which fits just fine. I like it a lot and it has a remote control which is useful in a camper van.

However, I too would replace it for one with a DAB tuner when they become available for less money than they are now.

Only 8cm deep (see the 3rd pick down), so fits a treat.

I've got two of the Aldi stereos. One in the Camper and the other in my Elise. However, they don't seem to like staying tuned to any one station for long. I'm told that they probably require a signal booster? Reason being that most modern cars have the booster already incorporated to the ariel , where as the older cars / vans don't? Can anybody add anything to this?

It has Bluetooth and a mic input (it comes with the mic) and fits in perfectly. I guess the only thing it doesn't have on the stereo 'holy grail' is DAB.

Aldi are doing a deckless unit this Thursday but with a pop out 7" screen that has an aux input for a reversing camera, I just think it will be be full depth to accommodate the screen though

Be useful if ALDI posted the actual draw (in amps) of that unit. Not a lot of use in the front (other than for reversing cam) in a T25 although might work in the back.

Mind you, there are reversing cams a lot cheaper around.

Actually, I think something like this (cheap truck/car navigator) coupled to the basic ALDI deckless stereo is probably a better option since it will also play movies and includes sat nav + reversing camera input and can be used on its own internal battery rather than physically part of your stereo which would obviously consume more. Not such an issue on hookup I suppose but out in the field, an independent screen is a better bet.

Like all distance sellers, theres a risk in terms of technical issues but at £30-ish, its not the biggest loss in the world. That would give a greater number of features at half the price. Online first-hand reviews of these units seem pretty good.

So, if you wait until ALDI reduces the deckless unit to around £20 (they usually do), thats about £50 all in and you can use the navigator in other vehicles or in bed to watch a film. Have ordered one so will let you know.
