Allowing for the required changes when fitting, and ensuring the final drive/gearing ratios are right for the engine (1.9 1Y), is there any reason why a four speed 'petrol' gearbox shouldn't replace a five speed diesel box?

i have a 1.9 TDI from an A4 with a 3H box 5 speed box with over sized tyers (14% bigger than standard) and could only do 50mph max so i have had to get it rebuildt with a bigger ratio crown wheel and pinion form brick werks so. so i can then take off the over sized tyers so it doesnt look like a syncro anymore
