Fan button pin

Hi all. Am i right in thinking the fan button sits on a small metal pin? In the distant past i remember using a set of small pliers to control the fan heater when i would occasionally lose the button! The trouble i think i have right now is …..having just had heater matrix replaced etc…looks like the garage have lost the fan button in the process of dashboard removal. Wouldn't have been a problem before as i could adjust the fan using pliers, but it would appear that the pin is also missing as there's nothing i can see to try and stop the fan from blowing on full continually! Suggestions and answers please.

P.S Am able to purchase a fan button from VW Heritage, but am concerned that the button has nothing to "sit on" when i push it into place and will just turn freely without adjusting the blower.

the button on mine has a shaped peg on the back, and that pushes into the switch fixed to the dash

Hi lloydy. When i would lose the button, i can remember being able to get a small set of pliers inside the chamber and adjust the three fan settings by turning the pin. I'm assuming that the button sat on that pin. Looks like pin is missing, so i can't adjust manually.

As said above - the pin/peg is part of the knob. Well it is on both of my switches. You would need a round peg @ 4mm with 2 diametrically opposed flats taking it down to 2.5mm.
All plastic construction.

Leaves you wondering what kind of planet they were on when they designed that. :D Just a smidgen over-engineered.
