After much frustration with intermittent running problems with my van, I sent my carb off for repair to Roger at Bromyard Vw.

After receiving the carb back and refitting, I am amazed at the difference it has made! The van starts first time, runs really smooth and has much more power! I finally feel I can trust it now and it's relief not to have to worry about it running badly, not starting, stalling etc. It now drives like a new van!

I was really happy with the service Roger provided and his expertise, I would highly recommend him if you're considering having your pierburg repaired.

Good to hear a positive report, I'm thinking of similar with mine with my current stalling woes

It was £255 for the repair/refurb including postage back. On return of the carb I received a comprehensive work sheet detailing the repair and what faults were detected. Which was somewhat a relief, considering I'd changed/investigated everything else before coming to the conclusion that the carb might be the cause of my woes! It also came back looking really clean and shiny!

Yes, I have contacted everyone that uses them (and posts here) and it is the case, and a very extensive test it has too.

Did the carb need tuning or did it run fine straightaway?

It's tested on a WBX engine at all speeds and temperatures before it's sent back to the customer
If it does not conform to the parameters set by pierburg it's not sent back until it does.

This is guaranteed.
Which means no "tuning" is required, as it's like new.

Reconditioning is £80 more than repair. Any ideas if it's worth paying the extra or is it just cosmetic?

Cosmetic, but you wanted a new one

Had mine repaired a couple of years ago but hasn't ever been that reliable. This sounds like a different level of repair to the one I had previously but if a new one was available for 50 more I'd probably go for it.

We just put the carb straight back on and it ran fine. Roger did advise me that some adjustment might be needed due to differing engine tolerances to that of the test engine and my van's engine. He sent instructions on how to adjust if needed.

This was explained to me as cosmetic. I went for the repair option, it came back pretty much looking like new anyway.
