Hi All,

I have a 1.9DG petol Komet

I have an inlet manifold that need replacing I have sourced a good one and have the gaskets for the manifold and for the carb, just not sure if I am going to get in to a pickle if I have a go at this one my self, so would like to hear from you if you have done this job, my concerns are below :-

waters involved so I guess I will have to drain it down, (have not done this yet and know there can be some issues)

fuel involved( was hoping that the whole carb will just pop off with the 3 bolt undone and can be left in situ until the replacement manifold is popped in)

does the manifold have a studs, or is it a bolt holding it on(any issues?)

do I need to put any kind of gasket sealer on the ones on the manifold and the thick one on the carb

Soooooooooooo many questions, I may still give all the parts to my garage who have done some work on it before

If you have some bullet points on how to attack it that would be great

Many thanks

Brian

You will need to remove carb because it will be in the way and in sits on studs

Photograph everything as you go so you remember how it goes back

Best to drain a few litres of coolant by removing a lower pipe and catching in a bucket, pour it back in the header tank when finished.

fuel is not under pressure so again you won't spill much, I use the shank of a drill bit stuffed in as soon as it's off to stop muck going in.

once air trunking is off put a clean rag in the top of the carb to stop anything going down including the three nuts and washers you remove.

throttle cable comes out quite easily, you will need to remove bracket too.

thre electric wires to carb, photograph and label them

two vac hoses at the rear, again photograph which is which

once carb is off keep it upright and covered to stop dirt going inside, another rag in manufold.

servo vac hose on left hand side can be old and brittle, remove it with care

four bolts to engine, once out manufold will lift off, rags straight into heads to stop anything going in

I don't use sealant on gaskets.
