Is this as easy as it sounds, and what problems may arise?

TD revs lower than n/a so a change of gearbox might be an idea too. I'm not sure how much this will affect change from n/a to TD. Have a look on the brickyard for gearbox codes and ratios, and google for 'gearbox calculator' to find a thing that will let you work out what speeds you can get from the various boxes. I 'm trying to find a box to match with a 1.9TD that is in my velle at the moment, with the box from that the van came out the factory with (mated with a 1.6 n/a) I can cruise at 55...

The 1.9 td aaz is the hightest revving diesel vw have made. Its just noisy so sounds like it revving it nuts off all the time.

I'm just thiking that for bhp per buck that a 1.6td is the way to go.
especiallly as to go beyond I need parts of the JX anyway.
50-75 bhp sounds good to me......

Well youll get 70bhp out of a good JX lump, but you could consider intercooling as well if you were so inclined.

Ok, I'll defer to Andy's superior knowledge, but with the AAZ in mine and the fourth gear ratio of 0.85 used on the 1.6 n/a four speed boxes I'm not gettting above 65mph in mine...could be a tuning thing, but to me it sounds like its running at enough revs by then, but then I'm used to a nice quiet wbx... so I now have transmission out and am looking for something that should give me more mph for less revs
