Starter motor bush size

I have been having a few intermittent starting problems so went to change the bush. Having got the bell housing off, the old bush's OD is ~2 mm bigger than the replacement, I think I must have a non-standard starter motor as there is no way that the shaft will fit through the nominal 12 mm ID of the new bush. Is there another larger standard size?
