Anyone know best way to remedy a wobbly speedo needle. The c clip is present at the wheel end.

I had to replace my cable to cure my wobble.

That would make sense Rob. The cable would I imagine, as it loses its stiffness, cause a degree of lag - hence the wobble.

I have a 'minor' wobble I notice but nothing to write home about - if I was actually keen to inform relatives (presumably by postcard) of any mechanical discrepancies I encounter whilst on my travels. :D

Make sure that the cable connection clip is properly seated on the speedo connection. Somebody who worked on my van didn't do this and it started to wobble. I pushed it back on properly and the wobble disappeared. Some people advise undoing the connecting clip and putting in a few drops of thin oil to lubricate the cable.

This was one of the first things I tried to fix when I first got my van. I bought a replacement cable, but for the life of me I couldn't get the old one out at the wheel end. If I remember correctly there's a bung or grommet that the cable passes through and it was stuck absolutely solid. So I've still got the new cable ready to fit. What's the knack for removing the speedo cable from the wheel?

IIRC once you remove the circlip the cable should pull out of the grommet.

I removed the circlip, and the inner cable could be pulled from the speedo end, but the outer was still stuck fast in the grommet. Absolutely no sign of movement, even with pliers around it levering against the backing.

It's a left barsteward, it took me a couple of days of lubricant and huffing and puffing but it finally came out. Reminds me of Frank Zappa - poked and stroked but still couldn't make that Dinah Mo hum (something like that anyway, if you ever went to a Zappa concert it is a miracle if you knew where you were even when you come out afterwards). I have a feeling that I used a thin rod as a drift to help push it out also.

My speedo needle has a pretty bad wobble at any speed below about 50mph.
I've changed the cable and the cap but it's still there - I've sort of run out of ideas now.
I'm thinking of just getting another cable to see if that will magically fix it but I'm also starting to wonder if the cause is the tight bend it seems to take just after it passes through the 'bulkhead' to attach to the back of the gauges - I wonder if that tight bend can be reduced somehow?
