Starter bush seems loose...

So I changed my starter, and of course I changed the bush.
Not easy to get the old one out, but the new one went in so easy I wondered if it was a good fit.
My worry (T25 paranoia) is that the hole into which it fits has become enlarged and the end of the starter won't be supported.
Should this bush be a tight fit?
Can I use a bearing liquid to fix it in? Not sure if this will work with oil soaked bush.
Comments welcome.
Alex
PS part of this worry comes from the previous reconditoned starter failing shortly after installation...

I replaced mine last weekend and although not over tight, it did need a couple of knocks with the hammer to fully fit. Did you soak the new bush in oil over night before fitting?

Yes, soaked it for 24 hours.
It didn't need any knocking in, just slid in with minimal resistance

It should be a snug fit. If it is loose I'd try another bush ( cheap enough ).

yes, I have a spare on hand.
Thinking it through logically I'll see how easily the fitted one comes out, and also see if I can measure any gap.
If there is a measurable gap I'll possibly be able to shim it, as long as the bush stays central.
Thanks for the replies

That is what I would do.

FWIW... If I were faced with this job in-situ, I would soak the bush in brake cleaner to get it completely oil-free, do the same to the drilling in the bellhousing (a bottle brush is useful) then bond it in place with Bondloc 638 (same as Loctite 638 but cheaper) then squirt some oil into it several times, once the glue has cured. Any misalignment will be negligable.

Yes, thinking about it, that (^^^) would be easier than fiddling about with shims in a place that you can't see and barely get your fingers to

Thank you, I'll bond it in just as suggested.
