rust on passenger footwell

We are about to purchase our first T25. She is a 1990 Westfalia, fantastic condition inside with just the obvious rust bubbles showing. She was imported from Germany in 2012 and has had one previous owner since. During a routine valet by the current owners a rust hole was found on the passenger footwell. It hasn't crept into the arch so my question is should I be concerned or is this just a common problem fixed with a welded plate?
Many thanks
Dean

It's a common problem.
You can buy preformed replacement steps, have a look on the brickwerks website.

Thanks for the reply, really useful website. On a separate note we are respraying her in the winter. How do I find the RAL colour for Calypso Green? I have the VW code but can spray companies work with this dated information?

Halfords made me up a rattle can and touch up for my '87 from the VW code...i would assume if they can, a proper suplier will have no problem. Bear in mind that its unlikely to be a perfect match to 30 year old, sun/rain/dirt/snow/roadkill affected paint...

You might want to look for where water is getting in to cause the rust, it's probably somewhere around the windscreen or the seal
