Saw a neat gas strut type engine hatch mod in one of the sheds at Busfest last weekend.
It was either the five cylinder diesel or the Porsche Has anyone on here done similar as it looked a really easy way of lifting the mattress up and supporting it while you do quick checks and fix things. Unfortunately I forgot to take a pic.

I want to do the same using the gas struts off the Golf I broke for the engine. Problem with those struts is they may be too powerful to close and will certainly need a catch to keep the lid down. I've even got the parts that the struts hook onto at either end. If I ever do it I will put up a few pictures. One other solution is a simple bonnet prop that could be found in a scrap yard.

On the plus side, if you sleep with your head that end, all you'd need to do is reach out, press a button (relay-powered catch) and you're instantly sitting up.
I bought one of these recently. Ideal.

We do sleep that way. That's a great idea to get the wife out of bed when I'm fancying a brisk morning walk and she wants to sleep a bit longer
