Fuel issue

Hi all

I've been regularly using my 2l Aircooled van most days with no issues. I've just bought a motorbike and have been using that for work instead, so the van has been stood idle for 2-3weeks.

Tried starting it today with no luck. It's sparking fine but no fuel getting through. The tank is new as is the filter. Removed the fuel pipe from the t-piece in the engine bay, cranked the engine and nothing is coming through. Could this mean the mechanical pumped is farked, despite having had no issues with it previously?

Cheers
Myles

I had the same recently. Got going by putting a little fuel directly in the carb. Got the pump going straight away

Silly question ... But is there fuel in the tank?

Yep, half a tank of fuel and the engine is cranking over fine.

2-3 weeks? Yep, float bowl will be bone dry. Follow above thread.

Excellent, thanks chaps. I just couldn't understand why the pump wouldn't pull the fuel through, having read through the thread now it makes sense, I'll give it a try and report back.

Had exactly the same, endlessly trying to suck fuel through and burning my face, the next morning after a cold night enough fuel had collected to fire up instantly. Didn't realise I could swap for an electric pump. Going to look in to it
