Clutch

Hi All

My clutch gave up the ghost over the weekend on our way home after 10 days away and about 600miles. Driving down from Wales to Hampshire for Carfest I knew it was going but we decided to just risk getting there and worry about getting home later if needed...which we did via a 70mile tow behind a very nice man in a yellow van.

Anyway, unfortunately I won't be able to change it myself as I can't get it to my old mans to use his drive way so i'm going to have to get a garage to sort it. I just wanted to see if anyone had rough costs from previous experience and critically are there any other jobs I should have done while I have the clutch out e.g. rear engine oil seal.?

Cheers

Russ

Starter motor bush, re-grease CV joints, check front crank and gearbox input shaft seals, Gearbox nose mount bush ... probably quite a few more that slips my mind.

Just had mine done. parts - clutch kit, new crankshaft oil seal and spigot bearing - came to £120. About five hours labour on mine - the old crankshaft seal had worn and the flywheel needed quite a bit of work

I'd be realistic though given what garages charge by the hour, plus the price of parts, which to be honest won't be far off the £100 mark. I know of one case where a T2 owner was charged a whopping £400 to do the job and that was in 1995. I did his mates the same day for about £120 so I'd be surprised if you'll find a garage in this day and age that does it for less than £250. Get quotes.
