hi im new here just brought a t25 air cooled with cu engine i have been checking things over as when i brought it it had just had a new recon engine fitted i have read a bit about the people who recon these engines  i noticed the choke unit was loose on the 32/34 solex so took carbs of to check and fit new gaskets ect found a big lump missing from a from choke butterfly and squirter pipe broken off these have been replaced still waiting for gaskets as bank holiday .I was reading about cooling and thought i better check my thermostat and found it does not have one ? there is a rod going across the engine that is spring loaded and i
can see where the cable would go so are my flaps shut making my engine hot or open
thanks paul

The flaps are spring loaded into the open position, the arm the cable attaches to should be vertical when fully open. Fitting a thermostat makes the engine run better when warming up, less engine wear and better fuel consumption.

i have also spotted that the reason for the heater not demisting very well ,is i have a gap about 18" between the heat exchangers and the plastic pipe will this be
Heat exchanger elbows or is there more between the 2
thanks paul

You should have the heater pods on the heat exchangers and pipes to the collector.
