rocker cover joys.

I thought I'd change the rocker covers and clips and gaskets. The covers looked so rusted they looked paper thin. I bought the covers and clips from jk and the gaskets from gsf. So far so good. Filled with morris oil and started up and checked for leaks full of confidence but was dismayed to see oil peeing out of left hand cover. Long story short..The lip on the new cover was 2 mm longer than the old one, not allowing the gasket to sit against the cylinder head. Result. .33 year old cover back on. New one going back to jk. Grrrrr!!!
And the lesson is..Should have gone to Brickwerks.

genuine rocker covers are nla from anywhere I think now so we all have to put up with cheap ones that don't fit that well

Don't really understand what was wrong, 2mm too long in what direction?

It is the overhang. It reaches over too far and comes into contact with the head where the casting is a bit bulbous for the pushrod tubes. I suppose I could have ground some off it but I was a bit cheesed off by then. So it can stay on for another 32 years. I took some pictures and if I knew how to post them on here I could show you.

The last ones I had from GSF were VW parts anyway. I replaced the covers, springs (bl%dy strong they were too) and gaskets a few years ago, smeared the cork gaskets with grease prior to fitting ... no problem ever since.
I can't believe people actually use JK still ... I haven't touched them for years.

That would be no problem on a wbx I wonder if they were never checked on an Aircooled.

That is for a Type 1 Aircooled engine and a WBX engine. Type 4 Aircooled engines use a different rocker cover NLA genuine VW, only aftermarket ones which are from the same manufacture whether from JK or Brickwerks.
