Gearbox Failure (I'm in Slovenia on a road trip) Please help

HI guys, I'm desperately looking for some help. I'm away in the van on the start of a 3 month road trip. Got to Slovenia and heard some weird noises in the gearbox, took out the bottom drain which has loads of needle rollers from a bearing attached to it (I only changed the oil 1000 miles ago for 75-90 oil, typical!!!). Does anyone know of any common failures with the box?? I heard input shaft bearing??? Are these hard to change etc? ANy help would be really appreciated!! I'm in a 1.7D 1990 with a 1.9 1Y engine in by the way. Thank you!!

email or call Aidan Talbot, he can at least sell you the bits you need if you can find somebody local to work on the gearbox.

if you can get a picture up of the rollers it will help more but he will likely know what bearing it is.

A photo would be great, but if you see needle bearing it means bad. Which side of Slovenia are you? The cheapest way should be to get a replacement tranny locally.

Having trouble trying to get pics up. The roller bearings measure about 4-5mm in length and about 1mm diameter... i hope this helps? Thanks

that's the end case thrust bearing broken up, 1st gear needle will likely be failed and the thrust washer,1st gear and synchrohub all damaged, worst case scenario shaft is damaged too, remove the end case, 1st gear and the debris and put it back together you might limp it home, reverse synchro if you could swap it for a 4 speed one would be better as with no first geat the synchroniser would be unballanced, you could cut the synchro up and reduce it to the centre part only which is same a 4 speed one just with three holes through it where you have removed the legs

Look out for the man in the brown van. He has a big wooden box for you (and its not a coffin!)
