Changed pushrod and now won't start.

Hi guys.
I have a slight issue with my 1.9dg not starting after changing a leaking pushrod tube for an adjustable one. The only reason for not starting as far as I can see is that when I took the rocker arm off, 2 small washers fell off with it. I have no idea where they came from so I put them on on two upper side of the arms that had the tappet nuts undone the most thinking that they could be compensating for something.
Probably not the right thing to do I know but not when starting it fires but like its on one cylinder. Any of your infinite wisdom on this would be fantastic.

If washers were M8 they go under the rocker shaft nuts
any other washers should be removed or at least get a pic up of them so we can see.
common mistake is to get the pushrods on the edge of tappets and not the centre recess, all or some could be like that on that side so the valves never close properly, it then won't run on theose cylinders, take shaft off and make sure they are all seated properly.
to check they are right do the preload adjustment listed in haynes, it will be clear if you have to back adjusters off any more than about 2 turns before they are loose they are not seated correctly.

The washers go under the two nuts you took off to remove whole rocker arm assembly, not the adjusting nuts.

As the engine is still in the van (i.e. flat) you'll have to lift the push rods at the farthest end so they sit centrally into the spring loaded tappets. A screw driver may help down there. It's tricky.

Ok now I feel a little stupid! Yes m8 washers are indeed go under the two m8 bolts, then urika she fired! But sadly she dies if I don't keep the throttle up. It also sounds a bit ropey too. Would I be right in assuming a rod isn't seated properly?

Could be one or two yes, check them
also tappets could now take a while to quieten down.

Great thanks. Just had another look and it seems like they are all seated fine is there a tell tail sign that would pint me in the right direction?

You say sounds ropey in what way?
if you are sure they are seated give it a run to let tappets self adjust and see if it returns to normal
