So I've had a few comments from people I know, asking me why my Caravelle sounds like a diesel...
Even though its petrol fuel injected ... any ideas?
It is rather loud!

If you mean it's got a diesel-like "knock", coupled with your post about oil pressure light etc, I would guess it's a big end bearing failed. This is the bearing where the connecting rod from the piston meets the crankshaft and the oscillating movement of the piston is converted to rotation of the crankshaft. Oil pressure etc needs testing asap

Thank you Marlinowner- I think thats what people are talking about although I can't be sure - its always been like that so Im used to it, but people do comment on how noisy it is and are very suprised when I say its not diesel.
If I took it to a garage could I ask for the oil pressure to be tested? I've never been to the garage for something oil related before.

Starting to panic slightly because the engines coming up to 200,000 miles and thinking I might need a new engine soon....
The garage said its a good van structurally.. it has hardly any rust if any at all.
I wouldnt know where to even start looking for a new engine...! I know someone who has a Caravelle that is currently having a Subaru engine in replacement. Any ideas what sort of price for a replacement engine? Eeeeek. Panic panic.

Try putting video up with the sound it may just be noisy valve gear.

When my DJ ran a big end it sounded like an old Transit diesel.
I wouldn't keep driving it because it will go *BANG* in a big way, with no warning and there will be very little to salvage.
Assuming it hasnt already wrecked the crankshaft.

Hi silverbullet - thanks for the advice. When I had it MOTd not too long ago, the garage said it was in good condition...so he didn't say anything about it being noisy - it's just what others have said to me. I'll try and record the sound because to me, it just sounds generally noisy - I dont think there are any odd knocking sounds or anything specific, just overall, its loud! (i think?!)
Im calling the garage today to get it checked in and looked at, due to my other post.

Depends if its noisy under load, above a certain rpm or all the time etc.
A wbx should be almost as quiet as a sewing machine at idle, a bit of tappet clicking is ok and general "fizz" but it shouldnt rattle or clatter.
A bit of a growl when it revs up is normal (hear the flat four roar!) but again, if it sounds like a old Black cab or an old F0RD Tr4NS1T then its cause for concern.

Okay, so now I'm hearing this it DOES sound like a black cab
And note the oil splats on the tailgate....this only appeared after the van was smokin the other day..
