Hi, just brought myself a Type 25. Looking at Sand blasting to get a good idea of what work needs to be done.
just wondering what the cost would be to do this?

Far cheaper and easier removing paint with paint remover
Then blasting the rust that's revealed.

It's not a type 25, it's a type 2, T25 or T3.

The problem with blasting is that you can't get in between seams etc properly without taking them apart first. I found it useful having my own blaster and being able to do small areas as I went along.

Just finished bare metalling the cargo area panels on my doka and found paint remover worst than useless , then tried sanding discs from my chosen sprayer but found these congealed with paint and could be potentially brutal if not careful ! At last found great success in a Calor gas gun and scraper small sections at a time making sure to not overheat panels , then used a beveled wire brush in my angle grinder to clean up and take too bare metal ,original vw primer tough stuff to remove , used a worn brush in angle grinder this was thinner and stubbier and could be hard pressed in to seams then used a hook blade in Stanley knife to rake out loose sealer, I think I have had great success and at low cost WARNING make sure eye protection is used as wire needles come off wire brushes

matt, post up decent picks and i will pretty much tell you whjat wants doing and save you loads of wasted time stripping to check .
ssdt, you used the wrong stripper, the commercial ones are sadly no longer available due to eec etc, but can be made up, it will strip in one go often

Why strip to bare metal if all is solid? Surely it's only the suspect areas that need this treatment. Same goes for sash windows and other timber products, having restored many, the last thing you do is remove a paint product if it's survived this long and still doing it's job.

Totally agree with what 2d posts,my last Doka 15yrs ago I had bare metal respray and after a few years regretted it as I felt the goodness had been removed ie the factory primer ,and I don't think this can be recreated by respray .?? I only baremetalled the cargo areas of my doka because of small panels , vents and new panels the cabin and drop sides are good and will make good base for respray

Epoxy primer is about as close as you'd get to the grip of the original primer, especially if it's sprayed onto grit blasted steel.
