Temp. gauge not working

Just replaced the temp. gauge in the top of the clock 'cause the original ones needle went missing
Even when engine is warm the needle on me new gauge aint moving. The red led flashes as it should on ignition so I presume the contacts are ok. I've had a look at the wires/connections at the sensor end and all looks ok. Is the next step a new sensor or can any tests be done to find out which part is causing the problem.

Cheers. :)

With ign on short out the two wires on the sensor. or join them together. Gauge should read hot. I think that is correct. If not someone will shoot me down in flames

the red light takes its signals from both the temp sender and the water level sender, and self checks at start up, so no, it isnt a clear indecation the temp sender is ok.

joining the wires will give you full reading, if the wires are ok, and the gauge is ok, but it wont tell you if the sender is ok or not
