Autohomes Split Charge Relay Fault?

Hello,

I think I have a problem with the split charge relay on my Autohomes T25, basically when sorting out the batteries I took the aux battery out first(under passenger seat), and there was still a voltage at the aux battery cables. I understood this battery is disconnected unless switched on via the Zig, or the engine is running.

As I was suspicious of a fault, I reconnected the aux battery and disconnected the master battery (under drivers seat), then reconnected the aux battery. With only the aux connected I could turn the radio on, bearing in mind there are single wires to the aux battery so no adaptations have been made since Autohomes built it.

So, trying not to over-complicate matters, it appears the aux battery is powering the van with the master battery disconnected, which leads me to think the split charge relay has failed.

Can anyone give me some guidance on this please, namely:
* Where is the relay on a T25 Autohomes conversion? theres nothing in the battery compartments, and also....
* Where do I obtain a spare. Hopefully identical as I don't fancy getting the terminals messed up when re-connecting.

I have attempted to search this and found a number of topics but not exactly specific to my question.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 1990 Autohomes Kameo and there are 2 relays in the cupboard below grill/gas hob.
One of them has a thick black wire going to it from the main battery behind drivers seat and has an inline 25amp fuse.
This relay also has a brown wire connecting it to the leisure battery.

You can't see the relays in the cupboard until a small panel held in by screws is removed first.

Hope this may help a bit

Paul

Hi

I also have a Kameo, though it had no leisure battery and no Zig unit. I believe these were optional extras when they were bought.

Below is a link to a Zig manual, I'm not sure if this is your model, but there are other links on the T25 Autohome website. Pandp38 is correct that the relays are situated in the cupboard under the grill behind a cover. I, however only have one relay which is the one for the fridge.

From the schematic in the manual there also appears to be only one relay, this is for the operation of the fridge so that it only runs on 12v with the engine running. The two batteries connect to the terminal strip, so I would assume that all ofthe split charge system is handled internally. I may of course be wrong. A picture of the internals of the Zig unit may help to see what is happening in there.

When I fitted my leisure battery I was looking at getting hold of a Zig unit, but decided in the end to make my own. Really easy and cost around £40, works a treat. Pictures below:

Not sure if any of this is of any use, but hope you get sorted.

Thanks for all of the replies and apologies for the delay, I managed to lock myself out of my account.

I found the relay as described, cupboard under grill. Purchased another 70 Amp relay after much searching on Ebay, fitted it and it's working fine although still powers up with the master disconnected. Definately the origional installation, it was thick of dirt and dated year before van build date.

Still please I changed the relay as it was very old, but at a loss as to how the voltage is coming through, there are only single wires to the aux battery.

Anyway it's working fine so ho hum. :run
