Front near side hub leaking

Been out for a drive to coast. Came back and noticed this on my newly planted Steelies. I have taken the chrome cap off for purposes of photo

Looks to be coming from hub. Is it just grease that has got too warm. The hub is warm to the touch having just parked up. Or something more sinister?

Hub is warm to touch, is this normal?

Wheel bearing?

If the wheel was also hot I would say that the front calipers are binding and causing everything to heat up. If the wheel bearing is going this would also cause the hub to get really hot so I would look at investigating and potentially replacing. The last thing you need is a wheel bearing failing whilst you are out and about :(

Had wheel off, pushed back the caliber Pistons and freewheeled the disc by hand. I suspect the wheel bearing as it feels anything but smooth. Does not run freely at all.
Another job on the list. It's the front near side 90,000 miles. About right I guess.

Gutted about the melted grease ruining the brand new l90 d paintwork. Could have been worse I guess!

Any suggestions how to get a seized dust cap off the end of the hub. I've used a claw hammer as a fulcrum against the disc but it won't budge.

No easy way I'm afraid, you could try prying it form the join gently with a screw driver and tapping it gently from side to side. Just noticed from your picture that the circlip is missing from the speedo drive also :(

Having recently acquired this van I am finding lots need addressing. It's a good van but lacking in tlc.

Which will give you a slight leak of grease, clean it up, degrease and seal with a blob of silicone.

is it normal for hubs to get warm?

They may get warm but not hot. If you say the you have spun the disc and it feels far from free and doesn't seem right then I would guess the bearings may need replacement. If you hold the disc at the top and bottom and then try to move it backwards and forwards, is there movement in it ? If so the bearings need investigation.
