before I force anything....


So the short story is that I had crap in my fuel tank. I seem to have cleared this, new filter and cleaned the secondary cone filter in the carb.

On petrol it is visibly flooding the top of the carb with petrol until the engine litterally drowns and cuts out. My assumption is that the float is not floating and stuck down so it is not cutting off the fuel supply.

I've removed the carb and the 4 philips screws that look like they connect the top half of the carb to the bottom but the two halves will not budge. I think someone might have used so sort of sealant on them but dont want to force anything in case there are other screws to take out.

Anything else I need to remove before trying to get the two halves apart - any suffestions on how to achieve this safely?

Top should part company easily with all visible screws removed so likely its been gooped on. The flooding is almost certainly caused by a ring of wear on the little needle valve for the float. I had the same issue when I went from a mechanical pump to an electric one. I'm assuming you have a gasket kit. This should help you determine where all the screws are. Without the kit, theres little you can do to make things right. You could make up a paper gasket ok but the needle valve would have to be replaced.

Just four screws, looks like you are going to have to gently prise it open, once started to crack gasket should go easily, there is only one spot where damage with a small prising tool won't affect the gasket sealing surface.
