I would like to know if there are any folks out there who 'specialise' in fixing rusty hi-tops? If so I'd like to get in touch with them.

I've previously posted a thread regarding the rusty roof in my van, looking at the job it would be too much for me to take on myself, since A) I can't weld very well and B) I have no experience with bodywork.

It looks like the Hi-Top would have to be lifted off, and in my opinion, the van would then have to be 'Scalped' since the rot has gone so far through the metal all the way front to back that it's gone through the gutters in places and is working its way into the pillars etc.

Is it as 'simple' as finding a donor tin-top and cutting off the lid below the gutters then welding the whole lot onto mine? (then cutting an opening for the Hi-top) or does that then become 'structural' work?

Of course the big question is cost, how much would I expect to be paying for the work? any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

I have same problem with my kamper hightop,fortunately I can weld so ive been repairing some of the rotton gutters,im not even gonna bother sorting the roof personally I think its a major job to take hightop off and repair the roof so its gonna be expensive to pass job on to a professional.

Fazzer you're a lucky man if you can weld, I've tried and usually just mess things up.

I can't get to my gutters because they've been covered with folded plates that actually secure the roof down to the van.

I'm not entirely sure it is worth repairing the roof, but the folded plates look ugly and the rot underneath is probably getting worse and worse. Taking off the Hi-top shouldn't be too much of an issue, I may have to take a look at it some time.

Are the folded plates fitted from factory or what's been added to keep roof on.Get some pics on there a lot of clever folk on here that can guide you in right direction.

You can see the plates on there, hopefully they aren't original because I think they look bloody awful.

I had a look at thread definitely not original.I think your roof needs to come off so you can see the extent of the rot.
