Can anyone recommend any good quality dimmable LED 12v lights? Am I right in thinking most LED lights are not dimmable?

Was thinking about two of either one of these not sure how bright & if too bright would be horrible.

All LEDs are dimmable but you need a dedicated controller as they don't dim in a linear fashion. Ghost would know but I think the dim aspect is produced by a variable square wave from the controller which can be altered to change the timing of their on/off state. To us it just looks like they dim but the controller is merely limiting the time they are on and extending the time they are off. Flash rate frequency in a nutshell. You can see the effect on a camcorder sometimes.

This sort of thing: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wireless-Conv ... 4194be47fc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Personally I prefer these as you can change the colour and brightness almost infinately and they're so cheap now: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5M-3528-SMD-R ... 3a9a5f0db7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - £6.29 for a whole five metres.

All you do is run a narrow piece of plastic trunking round first (self-tappers will hold it) then stick the strip to it. The controller is fairly comprehensive. All three colours at max produce white light but you can have pink, soft white, bright red, whatever depending on settings. Very versatile and easy to fit. They draw practically nothing. Make good domestic as well as camper lighting.

Maplins have some soft white round sunken LED lights (£5.99 in their bragain bin) which could be dimmed with a controller as linked above.

ok thanks for that Covkid. I will put a set of LED's through my computer PWM controller & see what happens :ok Guess it's similar technology to the controller in link. Good to know in theory any LED can be "dimmed"

Great info cheers

Can't grumble at the price, sadly no use to me as I have a Chinese free product theme going on with my syncro build :D

Hopefully the pwm fan controller will work for us :)

The only trouble is, if it has LEDs in, they'll originate from that part of the world even if the case doesn't.

Worth watching Big Clive's channel as its both informative and funny.

Gives you an insight into build quality.

Not wholly related but for those hardwiring their dash, heres an easy way to dim the top three bulbs if you switch to LEDs : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIP5vKLmreg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Spend most of my evenings there although you can easily get addicted to LEDs. Clive is both amusing and knowledgable. Just working on plans for LED arrays for rear light clusters (panels) - should light the back up properly at last instead of using LED bulbs. :D
