Afternoon all, does anyone know why the cold start mech has two positions [is one to stop the engine?]
Im looking for reasons why the sb engine is hard to start and then only runs for 1 or 2seconds before stopping.
The engine runs fine with the jx pump!
Ta.

I know nothing about the SB cold start thing, but if it runs for a few seconds then stops, generally I would look for an incoming air leak on the suction side of the pump, (which includes the leakoff pipes from the injectors), or perhaps in the pump body itself, eg one of the spindle seals. You might be lucky and spot some fuel leaking out somewhere. If fuel can get out, air can usually get in.

Ta,i've since found out that the cold start looks like the aaz pump [has timming advance and idle increase in revs]the engine and pump had been sitting in the scrapy for some time and I think the pump was dry!we primed it with gravity fed fuel!
