Been sleepin in the van out the front of relatives this week, an as your all aware its been a little chilly. Ive been makin the most of my recently aquired eber, however after being switched on for a while its taken a liking to switching itself off. Ive checked the voltage( well ive had the motor running while the heater is on and my split charge works fine) and its also getting fuel. Im wondering if its got something to do wit the internal thermostat or summit? When you have it set on low, the heater blows nice an warm and goes off after about half an hour, turn it up to gas mark 4/boost and it will run for an hour or two then turn off. The heater will not automatically restart after its swiched itself off, you have to leave it for 5 mins then turn off an on for it to restart. I want the heater to run on low all night to stop me wakin up wit a van full of ice. Any1 got any ideas?

I HAVE searched the site, and the wiki, and google . I have the manual. tells me absolutly nothing i need to know, the print is useless and my next door neighbours 3 year old can draw a better wiring diagram!

How about this information,,,,,,,Ebberspachers!

Two rules...

1. Battery voltage! THe ebberspacher will not start if the supply voltage at the heater is less that 11vdc - under load.
check battery charge level, check the connections, and start the engine if in doubt to give full voltage.

2 Fuel! There is a filter guaze in the end of the pump, many dont know its there, and its the first cause of not enough fuel ( after running out of fuel)

Eliminate these items before owt else,,,

That link you sent me was differant to the 1 i clicked on, and is much clearer (although is for D2 is near enough). I have done most of the things mentioned apart from checking the pump gauze which as u expected i didnt know was there, will check tomorrow, also going to see if it works wit 1 of the grey wires removed, apart from that im still stuck, the voltage has to be spot on as its running straight from the battery which is being charged by my alt' at the time of it last stopping. I thought a spakker was gonna be the aswer to all my woes, at the min its just giving me a rather chilly headache

could be that the gauze filter is clogged or has broken down ,
remove the glow plug and using ya finger extract the filter if it is blocked then rinse it in diesel, if its broke then ebay is your best bet

if all is ok then try getting another reostat from someone and trying that

now then, im an artic driver and have slept in loads of trucks. BUT, some night heaters(modern) work on a timer "stupid" if yer ask me.
you turn the thing on "great" so you think, then your awake at 3am gibbering, turn it on again. your awake at 5am gibbering.....CRAP.
i think you are supposed to turn it on, sleep through, then turn it on in again the morning so when you get out of your scratcher the air is warm. some "HEALTH & SAFETY SHAT" PROBABLY, if you have that type of heater, the new army issue sleeping bags are good for about -15 degrees, but a least you will be warm for an hour (before the heater cuts off).

some ebbers have a one hour timer on them , which can be easily removed and replace with a relay , which i know a few peeps have done and work really well , M0cki know's how to and i'm sure would be willing to share , if he hasnt done already via the wiki

I got myself a pump for mine 'cos it was missing, and I plugged it in just to see if it clicked and there was nothing. The fan works on cold and hot until the thermostat clicks, but no noise from the control unit. I'll try unblocking the filter and checking out the glow plug, but is there a reset code or way of resetting them? Mines a B2L. I tried the Wiki but the page was dead. The pump does work by the way.

the unit can be reset but you need the tool, which do come up on ebay , failing that you can take it an the ebber centre to get the unit reset,

soory just re-read your post , if the thermosat is kicking in then the unit must be working ? what noise do you want from the control box?

Bendy make sure the outlet isnt obstructed, or it will over heat and refuse to start without a reset...... should be minimum of 60mm bore pipe on outlet, any less, or blocked and it will not be happy......
also check that you are getting enough fuel, there is a test, on the wiki link, to see if your pump is delivering enough.....

also check that the combustion air inlet isnt "sniffing" the 'zorst , if they smell burnt fuel they will shut off..........

the bloke at the Lucus place nr Perkins just off Frank Perkins way is really helpfull and a ebber expert, he has the diag tool too......

My room thermostat clicks when I turn the dial, but it just switches the fan off when it does it, and nothing else happens. No clicking from the pump or control box or the Eber itself. Reading about it being reset I was just wondering if that might have been the problem. But I'm gonna clean that filter thing first and have a look at the glow plug first.

Just come back from a very pleasant chat wit the Eber man at Parkinsons Wat a ruddy nice bloke, an was into tourin as well, so as soon as i mentioned my van was outside he had his coat on an wanted to see wat was goin on! He checked a couple of connections an restarted the heater, and its been running on gas mark 1 for the last hour an a half which is longer than it has ever run for me before So i guess its sorted(cross fingers). So to round up its 4 things that an eber needs. Fuel, Leccy,Clear ducting, and for all the wires to be plugged in right inside the heater The man commended me on my fitment and said that was 1 of the best places he'd ever seen for an install, i was so chuffed i nearly gave him a beer(but then i remembered i drank them all the other night at 4am when i was freezing to death ) Will post some piccys on here for you all to see.
Asked ref the no starting issue and chap said if you try to start it 5 times in a row and it still doesnt start then it will "lockdown" and you need to get it re-set. so that might be your issue. He also mentioned that the switches can be tempermental and suggested trying to bypass it. he did tell me how but it was rather complicated, and after an argument wit a bloke at a roundabout ive sorta forgotten wat he said

So the moral of the story is. Go get friendly wit you local eber man. will save you a lot of headaches, and cold extremities!
