I have seen a vid of an american chap who uses a grinder to scuff the walls of his tyres revealing a white layer underneath. has anyone tried this and is this white layer present in all tyres.

I'll be attacking my tires this afternoon with a grinding disc , think I'll use the 9" concrete grinder , might be faster. Then I'll take the jigsaw to them and cut some jazzy logos into the side wall. Might even make some spinners by cutting the middle out of the wheel so the inner and outer spin independently. :ok
Great idea :rofl

i did consider whether this compromised the integrity of the tyre wall. there are in fact numerous vids re this online. many of the feedback comments seem to advocate it as ok.

maybe not.

If it was that easy and safe the Tyre OEM / Kwik fit would offer it as an option and charge for it!

There's a reason I asked. I do not profess to know much about tyres, unlike some on here. That's what this forum is for. I had my concerns and it looks like they were well founded.

You shouldn't really need a forum to confirm what a dumb idea this is.

It's taking an unnecessary risk with your life. Your van would almost certainly not be considered roadworthy by the law which means your insurance would be void, and you'd probably be breaking the law knowingly driving a vehicle with them fitted.

Bad on every level.
