A neighbor has a Westy pop top and needs the new canvas fitting.
Is there anyone he could contact that would do a good job - or, is it a job he/we could do simply enough.
cheers

^^ 100% take your time and it's a simple job. I was impatient when I replaced mine and ending up having a little tantrum! Came back to it later that day and it was easy job. Make sure you have a magnetic tray for the screws.

I got mine from Gunzl and am happy with it. Whichever one he gets I suggest that he gets one with side vents as well as the front vent, which I find not very useful on it's own. If it's raining you can't open the front vent as the rain pours in. However, you can part open the side vents and the roof overhang pushes water away, allowing you to cook safely on gas.

PS. He needs to make sure he orders the correct one. The early pop top canvas is fitted differently so the canvas is a different size.

Cheers for all the help. He has already bought the canvas, I believe he said it's from Germany, not sure. He just needs it fitting.

As others have said...time and patience are more important than skill and experience for this job.
And beer. Have beer to hand.

My 1980 westy needs its canvas replacing but it appears to be the screw fitting one so not sure what to make of that, £300 is a lot to shell out if it doesn't fit, could it have been replaced with the later fitting one previously?
