hi guys
Trying to get my van running properly.
Changed the usual plugs, leads etc
But still won't go over 50 and running hot.
I've set the timing at 5 atdc , but now I've read that it should be 7btdc ??
It's a 2.0 cu with twin webber34 Ict's so only has one vacuum pipe, the other one on the dizzy is left open?
Any help will be greatly appreciated . :D

worth reading the wiki

do you know what distributor you have?

Yes if you are using the standard distributor with the retard vacuum disconnected then the timing is 7.5 deg BTDC or time at 28 deg BTDC @ over 3500 rpm.

Cheers for that lefty, and I'm running the standard duel vacuum dizzy.
And cheers Big herb, just to clarify, the 2 plugs are plugged together , the retard part of the vacuum canister thing is left unblocked/open , and the advance pipe is left connected and time it to 7.5 BTDC ?
I probably won't get chance to check it now till Sunday do I'll report back then.
I think the timing was set wrong ( I'm hoping anyway ), cos I bought it last year and it over heated on our first trip after 30 mins and would only do 50 mph flat out.
It's been parked up since cos I lost faith and heart in it.
I've played about with it since but can't get it to run properly, but now I've armed myself with a timing gun !
Let the games begin !!

I have a 2L CU.
I spent hours trying to get the ignition timing right.

My solution in the end was to get a mate to drive it down the motorway whilst I adjusted the timing (laying on my belly with the engine cover off).
Retard the distributor until it pinks then back it off just enough to stop pinking.
Mine does 85 on a good day now
