Hello everyone
VW T25 1600 Diesel Water Cooled newbie :D
Help needed, rear fog lights won't work, I have done the following checked bulb, wiring connections, in rear light array all ok. Following post regarding fog lights I checked the following: I have checked fuses all ok, I have taken connector off fog light switch and checked for power red lead in connector black lead to earth no indication on meter, I checked all three wires conductivity results all ok.
I also have other faults: red flashing light on temp gauges flashes all the time, I have followed posts on this subject and have cleaned sensor and tank check connections, all ok. Though when I switch my headlights on the red light of doom stops flashing, on the ignition side the battery and oil lights do not come on when ignition switch on. Though the oil light will flash a couple of time when headlights are switch on. the Dash is a replacement as my other fell apart. It comes from same model as mine I also sourced a replacement 14 connector and connected wire for wire I had to install one cable into the plug one for glow plugs, any suggestions. My mot due tomorrow
Thank you
Robbome

Help needed, rear fog lights won't work nor the indication light, I have done the following checked bulb, wiring connections, in rear light array all ok. Following post regarding fog lights I checked the following: I have checked fuses all ok, I have taken connector off fog light switch and checked for power red lead in connector black lead to earth no indication on meter, I checked all three wires conductivity results all ok. I check conductivity of the switch in off and on positions works fine so I'm happy switch is ok.

The flashing coolant lights sounds like a bad ground connection - you need to check that your dash circuit has good ground connections on the ground wire(s).

Fog light - are you saying that you do have a good 12v signal at the foglight switch? Note that it'll only have 12v going to it when the headlights are on?

Does the telltale bulb on the fog light switch come on?
Earth to dash is pin 3 on the 14 way connector. If dash illumination bulbs come on with sidelights but go out on main beam then definite earth problem - when main beam is off then dash earths through main beam warning light and headlight bulbs, this route is lost when main beam on.

Hi midlife crisis
No I have no power reading at fog light connector at all I checked the wires for break all ok conductivity is also ok
But no power reading, where would the ground to the fog lights come from, I clean all earth crowns and connectors behind dash boardby fuse box drivers side, RHD model.

Cant really help you mate but have you checked all the earths? particularly the two earth crowns behind the fuse box.
I,m sure more knowledgeable people will post soon :ok

Too slow they posted while I was writing this.

Hi marlin owner
No the telltale light does not come on,
I switch on ignition normally you get red flashing temp light, which then goes off after a short while, battery/oil/glow plug/and hand brake light.
I have glow plug light working, and hand brake light.
If I switch the headlights on I get oil light for a couple flashes then goes off, no battery light at all.
I will check pin 3 as you suggest I think this is connected to the body work just below the dash panel behind steering colum
Thanks
Robbome

Hi lefty67
No worries mate: yes I have cleaned all earths crown by fuse board and connectors
I will check when I get home the ground wire to dash panel connector where it come from from memory I think it is connected to body work just below driving. The more replies I getting mentioned faulty earths.
Thanks again
Robbome :)

I thought that the rear lights were all earthed at the rear - seems pointless running an earth all the way to the front of the vehicle.

Small point,on my van the fog light only comes on when the ignition and side lights are on [with the fog light switch in the second position ]

Hi oldie but goodie
I not sure why you think I am going to run a new earth from rear lights to front of van??
Unless you mixed up what was said about the flashing red light of doom temp gauge see my original post
It was suggested I check the 14 pin dash panel earth/ground which I originally thought on my van came was connected to body work under the dash, I was wrong it is connected to the crowns on passenger side by fuse box.
This is the one I had in mind to replace but have not because it's a good earth connection I checked the 14 pin connector and all seems good all contacts are good so where now ???

Robbome

Hi Dave friday
Yes I have same as you ignition on side and headlights on then rear fog lights, but unfortunately the rear fog lights still not working . I have metered the fog light connector and I have no power to fog light switch, cables are intact with no breaks or loose connection, checked all fuses all ok, rear fog light bulb good, I have not yet checked rear earth but as I get side light and reversing lights and indicators, I doubt if rear earths an issue I will clean it up all
the same.

Ok Folkes
Here is an update: I tested earth wire to dash panel last night, result good ground solid connection I am happy with that. I wiggled the 14 pin connector as some suggested when ignition switch on I got battery light, glow plug light, when I switched head lights on I got oil flashing 3/4 times then off( engine not running at this point)I double check all wire connection all seems ok all connectors fully pushed home.
Some what deflated now as when I replaced the dash and rescrewed it in place I tried ignition again now I have nothing no warning lights at all except for hand brake, I am at a loss where to do next I have cancelled mot today. anyone got any suggestions !!!! Do I need to call auto electrician!!!
And still no Rear fog lights,

I would be suspecting a bad connection either at the 14 pin connector or on the blue plastic pcb somewhere then - you've managed to change the fault by fiddling around with the connector (and possibly disturbing the blue pcb) so it does look like your problem is in there somewhere.
You'll need use a multimeter to systematically measure voltage on the lines that should be at 12v and connectivity to ground for the bits that should have a ground connection until you find a fault ......

What year/type are we talking about? And what does your dash have in the way of rev counter, clock, buzzer of doom circuit etc etc ??

Pictures may help as well .......

Keep plugging away - the faults in there somewhere ..... (Well, in the van somewhere at least!!)
