Hello,

So, fitting some new pads and the aftermarket ones that i bought came supplied with a rubber-like backing

Am i correct in thinking that these are in replacement of the original metal anti-rattle shims?

Thanks!

Peter

Yes, that is supposed to stop them rattling and squealing. seems to work.

So, those calipers, were they just sprayed silver or cast ally as you thought?

It would be nice if one could keep callipers (and rear drums) looking like that (or black).

It's possible John, but you have to be a bit ocd with the cleaning!

I spent a day or two before fitting rear drums giving them a good coat of the highest temperature paint I could lay my hands on but even then, stones and heat do take their toll in time. I painted mine principally because they're more pleasant to handle later on - likewise driveshafts (neither of which can really be seen from outside). Not much point with my front calipers as they're rusty as hell so not worth doing unless I replace them. Agree though, you need to be a bit OCD to maintain them like that.
