Fridge question

I've got an Electrolux rm123e fridge fitted which I'm having trouble running on gas. Tried to light it several times, got a pilot light fine but it just wouldn't stay lit. Following the instructions the thermocoupler didn't heat up enough and the flame just went out over and over again.

I managed to light it on gas just after I bought the van but have always run it on elecy hookup since. Any idea how I can get it going?

If the thermocouple is in the flame correctly it will most probably have failed. My household boiler one fails regularly after around 2 years constant use, yours may well be the original one! Cheap and easy enough to replace yourself - once you have wrestled the fridge out of its nest of cobwebs! Get a universal one from ebay in the length near to what you need, any excess can be just coiled out of the way if you can't get the exact length of the current one.

Jet might need cleaning out, I got a much better flame after doing that.

Thanks a lot for the replies, yes its probably the original parts judging by the cobwebs... Will try cleaning the jet, if that doesn't work I'll then try replacing the thermocoupler

Thermocouple is most obvious as you say that there is a flame whilst lighting, if the jet were blocked you would be having difficulty achieving even that. Cleaning the jet after replacing the thermocouple is the way to go. Save any spacers from your thermocouple as the new ones don't always have the correct sizes in the assortment that comes with it.

Could be one or the other but best to replace with a universal thermocouple lead & clean the injector whilst you're at it. Don't poke any wire though the injector - just blow through or soak in solvent/petrol to clean. Should be fine.

Tried several times to light it but the fridge is having none of it, the pilot light looks pretty good but just goes out once I release the gas knob. I'm going to replace the thermocoupler, never done this before so can anyone tell me what's the procedure or point me to any previous info?

Haven't you done it yet?
Take the fridge out - usually screws through carcass into side of fridge somewhere. Undo the thermocouple at each end and replace with new one making sure that you have the tip the same distance into the flame as the old one. Simples. Nothing difficult at all.
