2.0CU J TUBES

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any companies that produce J-tubes for a 2.0CU to do away with the heat exchangers?
I have a blow in one of mine, and as I was planning on getting a propex or something similar for heating this winter I though it might be easier and cheaper to get rid of the heat exchangers and just get normal pipe instead. I cant seem to find anyone supplying them though, the one place I did find wanted about £600 for the pair
Plenty of stuff available from California at good prices but I know they will sting me for import tax and postage to get it over here!

Are they the same as the J tubes used on early (pre 85) WBX equipped vans ?

I'm not too sure tbh I've repaired the original one for the time being, chemical metal and exhaust bandage so should hold out until I source a nice shiny new one. I will have to have a look at the early WBX ones though and see if they do fit

I would replace the heat exchangers unless you only drive in the summer when it's not raining. You really miss not being able to demist the windscreen.

No, they're not the same. Wbx exhaust ports are at each end and round. CU underneath and rectangular.

I have repaired the heat exchanger for the time being, it is on the original vw ones so they haven't done bad really, the n/s one is solid and isn't even holed but the o/s had been welded previously. A bit of chemical metal and some exhaust bandage looks like it has done the job but wont really know until I get the engine back in on the weekend and fire her up.
