stereo help

Hi. I've got a kenwood stereo in my doka and need some advice. I've got no sound coming from the unit, speakers are all connected and seem to be fine. I suspected at first that maybe the head unit was locked ( and I don't have a code) but all of the functions on the unit seem to work.
My question is..........if it was locked, would you still be able to select functions ? or does it usually display an " enter code" display, and not allow you to anything else.
I'm tempted to bin it and put something else in, but previous owner of the vehicle was into music and I would be surprised if it doesn't work.
Maybe it's something simple,or maybe it is locked ?
Any help appreciated......... :D

In my experience Kenwoods don't have a code. If the functions and display are working then obviously power is getting to the unit. Have you reseated the plug(s) at the back of the unit? Can you bypass the speaker wiring, any old wire will do for a quick test on a speaker . If one speaker then works you know it's not the head unit.

When it turns on, everything seems to work, all the functions, fade, balance, amp, volume, all the settings etc.... But it does come on with "code off" for a second or two. Not sure wether that means it needs a code or not. I will try and hook a speaker up independently to see if if its the speakers. If one's not working.......would that cancel out the others ? As in a short ?
Cheers mate.

Also plays a cd,fast forward, skip etc....just no sound, which suggests to me that it's not locked ? You can go into a security section and put a code in........but I don't have it anyway.
Maybe the speaker plug has come away from the back of unit ? I did have a feel around but didn't notice anything loose.

Doesn't need a code from your description, maybe it has a separate amp that isn't on?
One speaker not working wouldn't affect the others.

Can you follow the wiring from the unit to the speakers? Is it possible there is another inline plug/skt?

I googled to try and get some info........an amp was mentioned. ( different head unit) but it say's something along the lines if an amp was fitted and removed, set unit to "amp off". Looking for it now :?
