Hi all, I want to buy a new cam belt before I have the 1Y fitted to my van. I was wondering is it best to get the belt and tensioner? Or would just the belt do?

I'm not sure if the tensioner can wear out but been advised in the past to change the belt while the engine is out. It's not me doing the job but need to order the part.

I would say yes, change the tensioner. They do have a finite life and it is so much easier to do it whilst it the engine is out. I replaced it as a matter of course when I prepped my 1Y before fitting. (I still got the belt one tooth out though to start with!)

Trouble is, that one isn't available for delivery. The 1Y has only done 100k miles and apparently the belt is in good nick but thought I'd have it done whilst it's out. These look better and there's a sale on...

I always stick with Brickwerks - it is what they fit and therefore recommend. Check it is for your engine but it should be. https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/ ... l?___SID=U This is the one that I fitted - my 1Y was out of a 1998 Caddy.

Yeah I usually use brickwerks. It's just because the car isn't with me now but I've just thought I do have the log book so can check engine number on that to see which one to order.

Search for ebay item number 361276141584.
Might save you a bit of money as it's in euros, specially now that Greece has thrown the toys out of the pram!
