Is there enough room under the load bed on a T3 pick-up to fit a 1.9 TDI without tilting it over? Cheers

Depending on which adapter you use you can have it at original car angle, totally upright, or something in between as well as canted over to silly degree as per stock diesel

:D

if you are one of the chosen few to own a pickup of some kind.. please don't ruin it by putting a dirty heavy oil burning engine in it.. your choice of proper fuelled engines is nearly endless..

No excuse for some clattering boat anchor laying in its own p155 in a truck.

Out of interest, what are the options in the uk for adaptor plates?
To go from petrol to diesel is it the easier more cost effective route to take?
Also prefer the idea of keeping the engine upright.

Why on earth would you want to go from gods fuel to heavy oil?

The easiest way to get more economy, if your petrol engine is in good shape, is an lpg conversion. That will give you 36-40 mpg equivalent in fuel costs. Probably only worth looking at that or other options if you do more than 5,000 miles a year though.

^^ kinda what I was getting at.. Had a bloke over on the 'yard adamant about doing a TDi conversion.. for fuel economy. After a few questions I calculated that it would take 35 years to "break even" on a properly done engine & transmission build..

Did that allow for the TDI munching the 094 every 2-5 years if driven with any enthusiasm?

ahh no!

to be fair the bloke in question simply had his head turned that a TDi'd T3 would drive like a golf mk4 GTTDi . it won't. plus he admitted to only using the bus for high days and holidays.. 3K a year.. do the math.
