Oil pressure switch woes!

Wondering if any has come across anything similar?
My van developed an annoying oil leak at the back of the engine-took it in to my local garage-turned out to be the high pressure oil switch. Garage fitted a new one as well as a sparkly new ss exhaust system-after 3 days of soaking/ heating etc-all sorted (bill was hefty mind-but expected that-won't tell my wife that bit!) all sorted. Picked it up and within 200 yards the pressure light and buzzer came on-drove it home with no issues-figured it was too much of a coincidence 2 be anything fatal-strange thing is when u switch it off and run it with the van still-no warnings-drive it 200 yards and off they go again-I'm thinking its a dodgy switch-will get back to the garage tomorrow -any one come across something similar?
Thanks folks

It could be a faulty sender, they are out there. The cable and conector in the engine bay ended up being to blame for my buzzer problems. Both were very corroded and brittle.
May I ask what garage you use over in Sunny Runny?

Hmm-theres a thought-it was all ok before it went in though & all theyve changed is the switch-on the plus side however, the oil leak is fixed!
Wish it was always sunny in Runny! I take mine to MLG in Kingsley-have used them for years-very honest and don't go looking for work-I've found them very reliable. Think I might have put them off vans after the exhaust fitting though!

Buzzer only sounds above 2000rpm and then it needs to be above 2000 for a few seconds so if the garage just idled it and didn't give it a proper test drive they may not have noticed.
Most likely a bad connection or broken wire across the engine to the loom, it's yellow in the loom, take if back if the bill was big they should have tested it properly, tell them to check the wiring to the loom and rev it past 2000 rpm.
also check the right switch was fitted, what engine?

Grey band on switch (closed under pressure) 0.9bar then, if they fitted a higher pressure switch and the engine is a little tired it could false alarm.
https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/ ... -grey.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
they could also have fitted a blue switch ( the one for between pushrods) which is open under pressure and will false alarm every time you rev it above 2000 rpm.
stick your engine type and year in your signature

Had a good poke about today-wiring to the switch seems ok but cleaned all the connections any how-alarm still went off! Disconnected the switch at the switch-still no better-thinking that it must be either the wrong switch or a duff?
If I earth the wire to the engine block should that stop the alarm going off?

Yes earth the wire if it stops then the switch is duff

Check all earths for corrosion/high resistance along with the state of the connections for the OP switches

Thanks will try it...and check the earths-the annoying thing is that I had a stainless exhaust fitted at the same time- I think it sounds pretty good but can't really tell because the alarm keeps going off!!

Earthed the wire and hey presto-no alarm-so either a duff switch or the wrong one-exhaust is good too! Many thanks for the input folks-greatly appreciated!

My money is on wrong switch, bet it's a blue one (standard oil pressure switch) not many vehicles have a twin switch setup.
As I said take it back get them to fit the right one at their cost.

I take it an oil switch change is an engine drain job? I mean it's obvious, but I have ask.

Not if it's cold
low pressure switch is dry when cold ( changed that)
high pressure may have some oil in the gallery but you won't loose much if at all ( never done it thats theory)
Sump oil level is just below push rod tubes and most will have drained back down
