Dash Lights

Hi there,

I have recently taken off my dash pod to inspect and clean the PCB in the hope that this might cure my oil pressure light going off. So I cleaned it all up as best as I could, gently with a scotch pad. Then on inspection I noticed one of the copper strips that goes into the white 14 pin multiplug had a piece missing. I then repaired this with silver conductive paint as advised on one of the wiki pages. So after i'd done all this, I connected it all back up but on turning the ignition, the oil light flashes only once. Am I right in thinking this should flash continuously until the engine is started?? As well as the low level coolant light?

Please Help
Lewis

I've got a slightly earlier engine, but I'm 80% sure that the Oil Pressure Light illuminates when the ignition is switched on (Along with the alternator light).

But as soon as the engine is turned over & running both should go out, and stay out.

Not too sure it should flash ?

It's only a switch, hence only has a ON or OFF state ? I don't think there are any active components in the circuit that should make it flash ?

The oil pressure light should be on constantly (not flashing) until the engine is running.
The coolant warning light should flash for a few seconds and then go out, regardless of whether engine is running or not.

Ok. For some reason mine used to flash before I took the dash out. Now after putting it back in, the oil light only seems to flash once quickly on turning the ignition (not starting the engine) and the coolant light not at all. Any ideas as to why this is happening?? All the other LEDS are working fine, indicator, full beam etc

Thanks for your replies

1990 Caravelle.
Oil light flashes until engine gets enough oil pressure to open the contacts in the switch.
I suspect its a flashing LED, so might not be standard on early vans or in "repaired" dash pods.
