where does your temp gauge sit?

I've recently just put in a new stat and now it warms up nicely, was just wondering where peoples gauge sits? That stat was removed in the first place for some reason, so need to make sure it's not playing up.

Either on or just past the light is fine.

Mine sits a couple of mm to the right of the bulb not sure if that's the correct position

According to VW handbook, it says something like " normal operating temperature is from the right of the white box at the lower end to the left of the White box at the high end "
So anywhere tween the two white boxes .... Where ever it sits normally is ok, it's when it either drops or rises from what ever its normal is that matters !
Mine sits about two needles widths below the red light normally, and rises to one needles width blow if it's working hard...uphill, ect

Thanks, mine must be ideal, the fans kicked in after a good idle and it never went any higher.

Mine sits exactly like yours cookbot, just below the 12 o'clock position with it moving slightly upwards towards centre if it's under load.
It was originally at the centre position when warm but dropped just below after I fitted a new sensor in the header tank.

Mine usually sits hovers near the box on the left and around the light when working hard

Used to sit at 10.30 - 11.00 until we replaced the stat. Now it sits at 12 o'c TDC.

Mine just covers the LED with a 89 degree thermostat. Yours is OK, especially with 87 degree theromstat or when there are some resistance in the old wires or corroded terminals somewhere in the coolant temp wires.

I think this is going to be a big factor!!
The more resistance there is in the wiring/connectors between the gauge cluster at the front of the vehicle and the sensor (and the sensor ground) at the rear of the vehicle, the lower the needle will sit!!
So the more knackered your wiring is, the colder the coolant will look!!
