Investigated sticky front brake (intermittent squeak - sliding caliper type) & found that although the rubber gaiter was intact, the bottom slider pin was siezed. Eased it & lubed it w brake paste. To reinstall the caliper the manual says to use NEW locking bolts (they came out with a band of blue compound on a segment of the thread). So - what's wrong with loctite and re-using them?

I have reused them before, even without loctite...
but new bolts are recomended..
cant really see why as they are not stressed components... prob due to the blue locking compound, I'd prob put the tiniest drop of loctite on and torque up correctly..

Whaddya mean they're not stressed? The caliper piston pushes against them don't it? Every time you brake?

No it just squeezes the pads together against the disc and the caliper slides very slightly, the bolts just keep the caliper in position, there is no more stress on them when you brake. The caliper carrier bolts are very stressed (the big 22mm ones or whatever size they are)

Yes Andy thanks, I see that you're right. I suppose that they could loosen eventually by vibration and / or expansion-contraction creep.

They'll do for now at least.

Andy is correct, they only stop the calipers falling off.. and yes its do do with vibration and thermals...

And yes its the carrier itself that taked all the load..

Just make sure you take your time to do the brakes.. they are life or death items....
