Sensor on gearbox. What does it do? Mines not connected.

Changing my clutch slave cylinder today and noticed a sensor on the left side of the gearbox with 2 spade connections. However there is nothing connected to it? Then my dad noticed a loose wire, with two spade terminals on it, draped over the back of the gearbox, which I assume is the wires that go to the sensor. Anyone know what it does and why it would have been disconnected? Vans been driven like it and haven't noticed any issues. I'm thinking it may have been disconnected for a reason to hide a fault as that would be typical of this van as everythings well past its best or bodged!

I'd better reconnect that then. Thanks mate.

Wouldn't that be an MOT fail if that wasn't working? Just curious.

Reverse light isn't part of the mot. I have the postal lights with no reverse light at all.

I'm surprised about this but googling further it seems to be the case. Well I never…
