Is there anyone local who could help me to do some basic rewiring. Just imported a 1983 T25 from Germany via France. My first camper and I was very proud of myself becuase I flew to CDG, picked it up from Auxerre (Bloody miles away) and drove it back. I replaced the withered fuel lines half way back and lost my Windscreen Wipers and Interior dash lights (kept going anyway ha)....checked the fuses and they seem okay. The electrics are a total mess. I would be quite prepared to pay and help should someone be able to help me out. I live in Warrington. The van is on French plates but I am insured to bring it if its easier. I need to get it done fairly urgent as I am due to MOT to register. Also if there are not any members could someone please advise a reputable and trustworthy auto eletrician who knowa hia vans.
Cheers
John

Hi John (brother of Mick?

) Welcome to the wonderful world of old motors

When you say the wiring is a total mess, has it been hacked about a lot, does it look like it`s been done by an amateur?
What type of camper is it? factory conversion or something else? Wiring obviously needs to be spot-on, or you can end up with a mobile bar-b-q

Has the camper got mains wiring and a 12v leisure battery and related wiring, as well as the OE VW wiring loom? They are notorious for having problems beneath the dash due to water getting in from a leaking windscreen seal, or a rotten hole in the metalwork.
It`s a big job to start taking out the dash and renewing the wiring, so it needs looking at and deciding if it is THAT bad, I know when you drop the fuse-box down the resulting spagetti can be a bit daunting, but as long as you hav`nt got loads of spurious wires and scotch-loks everywhere then "they are all like that"
You may have your hands full if you arn`t mechanically and electrically minded, any old motor takes quite a bit of general TLC to keep it right. Good manual and reading the great info on the Wiki (button at the top of this page) is a good start.

Yes there are bits of wires with nothin on the end except bare wires? Why? and ther are loose connections to the zig zag unit I think and as I said the wipers arent working.....grrrrrr. Thought the bargain was too good to be true
......
Oh its an Auto sleeper conversion...later heath robinson I think....
May just take it to somewhere like Just VW..... let them have a look but I know it will be dear....

Sorry, I`ll re-phrase that

Does it look like it`s been done by someone who doesn`t have a clue what they were doing ?
If you have bare wires etc, then I think that may confirm it
