bad welding rust patches advice needed

Hi All,
My lovely partner recently had some works done on my van as a surprise for my 30th.
We started working on the van yesterday when I got a good look at the welding and at a rear windows that was installed. The welding included:
1. The passenger side seat belt area, front wheel arch
2. The foot steps
3. Some holes in the engine bay area
4. The corner in between the rear passenger side panel (fiddly area above wheel arch)

The welder has welded new patches of metal straight over the top of the rust patches / holes. It looks like this has been done without treating sanding back the rust already there.

Surely this is not on?

Advice needed on what I Can do? Can I get him to fix it without further cost? Do i have a leg to stand on here?

The rear window has also been fitted without having treated the bare metal where it was cut, the windows rubberseal also does not even cover part of the hole in one section.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Emma

damn.. That's gutting and very awkward no doubt. I've no educated advice on that, but I'd assume that that's not good practice and should be seen to as soon as possible, before they say its in a different state than when they had it...

I've had welding work done, and I would not be satisfied with that.

Again this is only from a 'hobby' mechanic, but I'd certainly cut away all the rotten metal before even considering welding on fresh panels.

WHS ^ I wouldn't be satisified with that

Sounds a bit poo to me . Try and post some pictures of the offending areas. Is it a garage, mobile welder, friend that's done the welding ?

Sounds like very shoddy work to me, I'd definitely go back to who did the work and try and get that fixed

Will get some pics up soon. Glad to know everyone is saying the same thing. We are going to contact the guy tomorrow and see what he says.
Thanks

I had some similar very poor welding done around the windows in my van. Didn't spot it till after I had got the van back. Turned out they didn't protect the metal after welding and fitted the glass leaving the metal to rust. I decided to forget it and pay extra to have the windows removed and refitted by a professional. But not before protecting the metal once the windows were out.

It all depends on how much you've paid. Do you really want this person doing any more welding on your van? Learn for next time and thoroughly check all the work before paying. Don't trust anyone. And I don't mean that in a negative way just check before paying. Wish I knew that a few months ago!

Good luck, Jon.
