So after a lovely weekend camping on the way there and home on the motorway about 60mph the temp needle went over halfway just past LED stayed there for a few mins then dropped back to normal halfway and once crusing again at 55mph it drops to just before LED.
No coolant loss and no over heating, is it doing this cos its hot out there ???
Town driving all normal
Or loose connection faulty sensor hence my other post
Rad hot, hot air blows etc.
Thanks guys
ps roof box and bike rack on tow ball so its carrying more that usual.

This is relatively normal, mine had the 1.6TD until a couple of weeks ago and the temp gauge would rise a couple of mm past the LED when slogging up a hill even with no extra load.
These are heavy vans and the 1.6 really is horrendously underpowered in this application. I know the 1.9TDI's inside out, that's what I have now and even 110HP isn't enough really.
Dave.

Needs a 2.5l - 3.0l engine to push these really but then its hard to make it any more economical.

Your gauge is telling you to slow down.
That 1.6 was way out of it's comfort zone.
If you really need to go faster/haul weight get an engine that will or get a modern van.
It was designed for local use, not high speed cruising.
