SORRY if asked before,
is the 1.7D sump different to the 1.6D sump, I`m hoping to swap in the new year from 1.7 to 1.9 thought i was on a winner with it already being a deasel, but just read on Brickwerks that i will need to change the sump .
cheers

Turbo-diesels need a return point onto the sump for the oil line from the turbo. The other variation is whether the drain plug as at front or rear, Syncros need it at the front because the engine is canted downward.

Cheers for the reply.
so although mines already a diesel "1.7" if i want to put a 1.9 turbo it i need to source a 1.6 for the bits, but if i put a 1.9 non turbo can i use the sump and bits off the 1.7.
i`m getting myself confused here.
HELP

No, you're not confused, that's exactly right. You just need to decide on what motor you're fitting !

Sort of, if you want to put a TD in you need a TD sump, not a plain Diesel sump.
As Andy said, the TD sump has a extra port for the oil return from the turbo, to normally aspirated versions omit this extra port.

Finding a turbo sump would be worth the hassle, the 1.9 rattlers are painfully slow compared to the turbo rattler.
TD or not 2 D

Remember your gearing! A 19td will tear a 1.7 box to bits. Stick to a 19D and up the ratio of you tyres/wheels. No point avin a turbo if its not pushin the wheels!

think i will stick to 19D as i`m no speed freak and hopefully it will be cheaper than a turbo.
thanks for all the replys.

eyup owduck,i opted for the 1.9d,and i cant fault them, piece of p**s to fit and i used a 94 engine from a golf so no reliability issues, cheap to pick up as well........................regards
